Road safety week

We’ve created a series of community events and activities from Monday 20 May - Sunday 26 May to help promote road safety in the capital.

We’re teaming up with Brake NZ as part of Road Safety Week 2024.

This year the theme is being a Road Safety Hero, and we want you to nominate someone who goes above and beyond to promote road safety in your community.

Stay Bright at Night: Preparing for Winter Riding

Free reflective gear: collect complimentary reflective gear for yourself and your paihikara/bike to help you stay bright at night. Enjoy some free hot chocolate while you’re there.

We also have bike lights available for Leisure Card holders while stocks last.

Bikespace workshop: starting at 5.15pm, Bikespace will host a 45-minute bike maintenance workshop covering the key things to know to keep your paihikara running at its best.

Workshop spaces are limited, book your place on Eventfinda.

Child seat safety session

Join us for this free child restraint clinic. Trained Wellington City Council technicians will be available at Waitangi Park to check and help you correctly install car seats, to ensure the children riding in them are safe.

Staying safe course for older drivers

Age Concern are running a series of driving workshops for senior road users in partnership with Waka Kotahi. Includes free morning tea and a light lunch.

Learn to ride session

Come have some fun, test your safe passing skills, and earn some free merchandise or minutes for your micro-mobility rides on an obstacle course with Flamingo (from 10am-12pm) and Beam (from 1pm-3pm).
