Child restraint checkpoints

Wellington City Council and New Zealand Police have partnered together to check car seats in Pōneke.

Child restraints need to to be installed correctly in vehicles to keep children safe. With monthly checks conducted by the Council and the New Zealand Police in 2023–24, over 50% of child restraints were not installed correctly.

Go to the Waka Kotahi website to:

  • check which standard your child restraint meets
  • watch video guides for installing your child restraint.

Child restraints have an expiry date – see how to read a car seat date stamp on the SitTight website.
