About the project
Trails Wellington approached Wellington City Council in 2021 with a concept for a grade 3 intermediate flow track on the eastern side of Matairangi Mount Victoria.
After further design and public consultation, the track was approved by councillors in 2022. The work is funded by Trails Wellington and the Council will be overseeing the management of the project.
The track will provide a new riding experience for intermediate level riders who are not currently catered for in the area. It will also have features that more experienced riders can enjoy.

Timeline
The new track will be built in three sections:
- Section 1: It was completed in September 2023. Trail grade guidelines changed during construction of section 1 and some track features do not comply with the new grade 3 intermediate guidelines. These features will be remediated in early 2024. In the meantime, the track is sign posted as advanced grade 4.
- Section 2: It began in October 2023 and will open in early 2024.
- Section 3: It will begin in early 2024.
