About Wellington City Libraries

Our libraries are community focal points, providing knowledge facilities and resources in a welcoming environment.

Visiting our libraries

Arapaki Manners Library and Service Centre, Te Awe Brandon Library, and He Matapihi Molesworth Library are now open, and our 11 suburban libraries remain open to the public. We encourage you to make use of these spaces and our community centres throughout Wellington.

Members can also access a range of resources online through our eLibrary – including eBooks, eAudio, eMagazines, online databases and digitised heritage.

You can search the libraries’ online catalogues, check your library card, view lists of new items and find information on popular topics.

The recommended online resources at mygateway.info help library members to search authoritative databases and thousands of New Zealand and international newspaper and magazine articles on many topics.

Library programmes

Our branch network offers a range of special programmes and events, including pre-school storytime, Baby Rock ‘n’ Rhyme and school holiday activities. Check out our events calendar for locations and times.

Membership

Wellington City library membership is free to all residents. People who live outside the city are also welcome to use our libraries through our Out of Towner or Annual Subscription membership.
