pakiTara-toi is a play on words – "pakitara" is the te reo word for "wall", Tara is also the ancestor "Taraika", elder son of Whatonga, after which Te Whanganui-a-Tara is named. Tara was the eponymous ancestor of Ngāi Tara, who were the first tribe to occupy Wellington.
