Introduce a 30km zone in Berhampore

Petition details

We request that Wellington City Council introduce a 30km zone along Adelaide Road through Berhampore to ensure the safety of all its users. Adelaide Road through Berhampore is a busy and narrow road. The road is a throughfare for commuters between Island Bay and the CBD. The traffic at peak times and in the weekend is high. In all neighbouring suburbs (Newtown, Karori and Island Bay ), lower speed zones have been put in place.

Background information

A diverse range of people use this busy stretch of road. Children with their parents walk along and cross to access Berhampore School, and students from SWIS walk and scooter to school. In the weekends, Wakefield Park is heavily used, and many parents and children cross the road at a section where many drivers speed up. Many commuter and recreational cyclists that have to share the road with cars in a narrow section of Adelaide road.
