Coromandel Street traffic signal changes for new Give Way 2012 rule changes

Petition details

We propose that the WCC add two turning arrows to the recently installed traffic signals at the intersection of Coromandel and Constable streets before 25 March 2012. This will allow traffic turning from the southern end of Coromandel Street to head East on Constable Street after they lose the right of way with the changes to the road code.

Background information

The 25/3/2012 changes to road rules will impact on traffic from the south end of Coromandel St in Newtown heading east to Kilbirnie. Currently this light flow of traffic has the right of way over the flow of 'rat runners' using Mein and Coromandel St. After the road code changes the 'rat runners' will gain right of way. This means traffic exiting the southern end of Coromandel St to head to Kilbirnie will be severely restricted as it gives way to the much larger flow of 'rat runners'.
