Support the restoration of Maranui Surf Life Saving Club’s iconic building

Petition details

Things are hotting up in the Maranui Surf Life Saving Club debate with the WCC. The Wellington City Council is holding a public meeting on Thursday 22 October at St Catherine's College Hall - 14 Upper Bourke Street, Kilbirnie. The meeting will start at 7.30pm - 9.30pm. It is your chance to come along and voice your opposition to the WCC proposal to demolish all four historic buildings on the waterfront and build a brand new Super Building.

Background information

Maranui Surf Club has owned and tenanted the building for 98 years and has put a lot of “sweat, blood and tears” into the upkeep and maintenance of the building. However Maranui has become a role model to other community services by turning the Club into a fully active, financially self sustainable operation with an ever increasing membership. This was primarily achieved by creating the Maranui Cafe to raise the clubs profile and to fund the development of Surf Life Saving coaching
