Nicola is an independent, fourth-term city councillor for the central city Pukehīnau Lambton ward, having been first elected in 2013.
Nicola wants Wellington to be vibrant and affordable, with core services delivered well. She is particularly proud of winning the fight against KiwiRail’s proposal to site the terminal for its new mega-sized ferries in the city's inner harbour, her work on the CBD laneway upgrades, and her support of the arts.
Nicola – a sixth-generation Lambton resident – was born, raised and educated in Wellington. She initially trained and worked as a journalist here, then spent 20 years in England where she raised her family and worked in London's financial markets. On her return to Wellington in 1996, she established a political strategy and communications consultancy (her clients included PHARMAC and several politicians); she also specialised in writing public policy documents such as New Zealand's first biosecurity strategy. For 12 years she wrote feature articles for a local magazine, using her extensive knowledge of Wellington, and she was on the St James Theatre Trust for several years before her election to Council.
Nicola lives in Mount Victoria. She has two adult children (a son in Wellington and a daughter in London) and one grandson (in London). She has had a life-long love of music, contemporary art and heritage; she has travelled extensively and enjoys cooking and entertaining her friends. She has completed six of New Zealand's Great Walks.
