Use these tips from the Council's professional photographers to improve your photography.
- Get close to the subject and fill the frame.
- Try using a flash outside - it fills in shadows and can make a portrait more flattering.
- Keep horizon lines straight unless using a different angle on purpose.
- Shoot at the highest resolution available to your camera.
- In low light, lean on something to help keep your camera steady or use a tripod.
- Use different apertures (camera lens openings) to reduce or extend the blurriness in the background.
- Use different shutter speeds to freeze or blur moving things.
- Take spare batteries.
- Keep an eye on backgrounds as they can be distracting to otherwise good photos.
