Application Fee

There is a fee for applying for a water supply connection. The residential application fee is $60 per connection. The application deposit fee for other types of water connections (e.g commercial, fire or mains connection) is $200 per connection.

These fees are charged on an initial 'deposit basis' with an additional charge if the total cost exceeds the deposit. If the actual cost is less than the deposit, a refund will be made. Your application fee must be included with your water connection application form. In the case of greenfield development there is no application fee.

Lodging the Application

Once you complete the application, send it by post with your application fee to:

Wellington City Council
Central City Service Centre
New Water Connection
PO Box 2199
Wellington

Or drop it into the City Service Centre at Wellington City Council, 101 Wakefield Street.

Approval of the Application

Once your application has been processed you will be advised of its approval or non-approval by Capacity. Capacity manages water, stormwater and wastewater services on behalf of Wellington City Council. You will be sent a list of approved water supply contractors with the approval letter. You can then decide which contractor to deal with and negotiate directly with them regarding the connection cost.
