To celebrate the work of Wellington's volunteers, in 2001 the Council and the International Year of the Volunteer 2001 Coordinating Group established a small garden on the corner of Victoria and Dixon Streets.

In 2005 the Council officially named the corner 'Volunteer Corner'.
