In 2009, Computer Access New Zealand (CANZ) Trust won the Heritage and Environment category and the Supreme Winner award for the Wellington city group.

The CANZ Trust was established to promote the reuse and recycling of computer equipment. CANZ created eDay as a community event to raise awareness about the dangers of electronic waste in landfills. This has now grown to a national phenomenon with 40 communities involved across New Zealand.

CANZ also won the Heritage and Environment category at the regional awards, as well as the overall regional Supreme Award. They go forward to the national awards judged in March 2010.

Other winners were:

  • Lyall Bay Surf and Lifesaving Club (Sport and Leisure)
  • Mary Potter Hospice (Health and Well-being) - both Wellington city and regional winner
  • Wellington Community Law Centre - highly commended (Health and Well-being)
  • English Language Partners Wellington (Education and Child / Youth Development)
  • Vincents Art Workshop (Arts and Culture) - both Wellington city and regional winner
