Sense of Place Study

The Council's commitment to preserving and enhancing sense of place is reflected in several ongoing projects and programmes.

These range from social and cultural initiatives to suburban centre upgrades, and regulation of private development.

To assist this work the Council undertook a study on sense of place, which includes:

  • an investigation of how Wellington's sense of place varies throughout the city
  • consideration of what the Council can do to enhance and preserve Wellington's sense of place, including suburban variation.

City Character Study

A citywide study of urban character has been commissioned by Council. This study will provide an assessment of the character of all suburbs.

This study is providing key research material for several ongoing projects, including the Infill Housing Review.
