If you plan to work on or near a road in Wellington, then you must comply with the relevant roading Code of Practice and the temporary traffic management standards.

Private individuals and their contractors planning work on or near the road (a carriageway, footpath or roadside area) in Wellington must follow the Council's Code of Practice for Working on the Road.

Utility Operators

Utility operators planning work on or near the road (a carriageway, footpath or roadside area) must comply with their act of parliament, the National Code of Practice for Utility Operators Access to Transport Corridors and the Council's Local Conditions:

Temporary Traffic Management

If working on the road will stop general traffic then you need to organise temporary traffic management.

The road includes the carriageway, footpaths or roadside areas.

Traffic includes other road users such as pedestrians, cyclists and motor vehicles.

The temporary traffic management standards that you need to meet are listed in the Local Roads Supplement and the Council's Application form.
