The amount you pay will depend on the weight of your rubbish - rather than the type and size of the vehicle you bring it in or where the rubbish is placed. The charge for general waste is $93.25 per tonne for all customers, both residential and commercial.

A minimum charge of $41 applies to all commercial customers.

Follow these steps at the landfill:

  1. When you drive in your vehicle will be weighed.
  2. You will receive a docket showing the weight of your vehicle. Keep the docket because you will need it on the way out.
  3. Dispose of your waste.
  4. When you leave your vehicle will be weighed again, without waste. Submit your docket to determine how much you need to pay. There are charges for lost dockets (see below).

Commercial waste and trucks are not accepted on Sundays.

Waste Disposal Charges

Price increases are effective as of 1 July 2009 and reflect operating costs. Waste going to landfill is also subjected to the waste levy, as per requirements of the Waste Minimisation Act 2008.

Household Hazardous Waste

Accepted free of charge provide no other waste is delivered with it. Where other waste is also delivered, normal landfill fees apply for all waste.

Payment

You can pay by account, cash, eftpos or credit card. The landfills do not accept cheques.

Keeping Costs Down

You can reduce the number and cost of landfill visits. The more you recycle the less you'll pay.

  • Use the city's free weekly kerbside recycling service. There is no limit to the amount you can put out.
  • Sort your rubbish before landfill visits so you recycle as much as possible.
  • Drop excess domestic recycling at the free recycling stations at the Southern and Northern Landfills.
  • Take good reusable items to the Second Treasure shop at the Southern Landfill. Not all items can be sold so check with staff.
