This grant is a partnership between Wellington City Council and the New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA). Every year the NZTA provides money to the Council to support local transport programmes.

Value

There is $10,000 available for grants in 2011/12.

There are two rounds closing the last working day of May and October.

Purpose

The Safe and Sustainable Transport Community Programme assists projects that align with the Council's transport strategies and enhance Wellington as a more liveable, sustainable, healthier and safer city.

The Safe and Sustainable Community grants are intended to help build strong and safe communities with high levels of participation and can also support community-based projects that promote sustainable and efficient transport use.

Focus Areas

  • Alcohol
  • Cycling safety and/or skills training
  • Intersection safety
  • Motorcycle and moped safety and/or skills training
  • Pedestrian safety and walking promotion
  • Safety belts
  • Speed
  • Young drivers
  • Travel planning

Criteria

  • The project should be Wellington-city based and primarily benefit the people of Wellington.
  • The application should provide evidence of sound financial management and any previous funding received.
  • Projects should benefit the wider community rather than individuals or particular sectors.
  • Applicants should not be government agencies or limited liability companies.
  • The project should encourage community growth, participation, environmental sustainability and understanding of environmental values.
