The fund aims to assist schools and school trust boards to maintain and improve their pool facilities for wider community benefit.

Value

Grants will be allocated once a year in 2011, 2012 and in 2013, subject to available funds. $500,000 will be available in 2011 and (subject to approval by Council) $500,000 in 2012 and 2013.

Purpose

The School Pools Partnership Fund aims to improve access to and uptake of learn-to-swim, aquatic education, sport and enjoyment by local communities of Wellington City by increasing the total available pool capacity and aquatic programme opportunities throughout the city.

Criteria

In order to apply for a grant an organisation must:

  • give evidence of sound financial management
  • have reported adequately on any previous funding received.

The project must:

  • demonstrate how it helps resolve current and forecast demand for learn-to-swim and aquatic education within Wellington city boundaries
  • be strategically located to both facilitate easy access for participant schools, (eg a 15 - 20 minute walk time from neighbouring schools) and ensure that appropriate catchments are created across the city.

The applicant must:

  • allow use of the pool facility by other schools during the school day.
  • make the pool facility available for wider community use outside of the school day/term (see application guide).

A complete list of general criteria is on the application form and in the guide.
