Recent Changes
The Council has revised the way its grants are structured in order to bring them more closely into line with its strategic direction. As a result, there are changes in the way grants are administered. The changes took effect 1 July 2006.
Four Grant Pools
In order to simplify the system, many various grants have been combined into four general grant pools. There is one application form for all four general grant pools.

Applications for General Grants
There are three general grant rounds each year - in July, November, and March. Groups can apply to any one of these rounds. Application forms are available six weeks prior to each closing date and free advice sessions are run by the grants team.
Groups are encouraged to make one focused application a year, rather than applying multiple times for different types of costs or activities.
Criteria
In order to receive general grant funds an organisation must:
- be a legally constituted community group or organisation, not an individual or individuals (or apply under an umbrella organisation)
- give evidence of sound financial management and must have reported adequately on any previous funding received.
The project must:
- align with the Council’s strategic outcomes as described in the current Annual Plan
- be based in the Wellington rate-paying area and primarily benefit the people of Wellington
- show evidence of community support and not duplicate services already available
- have clear outcomes and a process in place for measuring these outcomes.
