If you are a restaurant, takeaway premises, food stall operator or hawker, you must apply for a Certificate of Registration.

To hold a Certificate of Registration, you need to have written Council approval.

If you intend to handle food for sale, first complete the Application for Licence or Registration form and return it to our Building Consents and Licensing Services team.

Grading Certificates for Food Premises

All food premises must meet the requirements of the Food Hygiene Regulations 1974.

Council's Health Officers inspect food premises annually.

Your food-premises grade is based on the Council's 4-category risk rating. The categories are:

  • Conduct and practices
  • Structure of the premises
  • Cleaning and sanitising
  • Staff training.

You can gain an 'Excellent' grade if your premises shows a higher level of compliance than what's required by the Food Hygiene Regulations 1974.

Food Stalls

Food stalls operate at a variety of venues including events, festivals, galas, and farmers' markets.

If you are a food stallholder, the event organiser will get you to fill in the 'Food Stall Information' section of the Required Information for Events (Food Fairs) form below. It sets out the requirements for preparing food and stall set-up.
