Every year Wellington city hosts a wide range of events, including concerts, sporting matches, live theatre and dance, exhibitions and festivals. The Council supports many of these events through grants, event coordination, and promotional activities.

Summer City 2012

The Summer City festival is starting a little later this year. The programme will be available in early January.

Swim Challenge - Las Vegas Bay

1 February - 30 April,

Para-triathlete Nick Ruane.

Para-triathlete Nick Ruane

Take up the challenge and swim or aquajog 53km over the summer to raise funds for Wellington-based para-triathlete Nick Ruane.

There are spot prizes, plus it's a great way to keep fit and healthy.

Entry is by gold-coin donation at all Council pools.

This event is sponsored by Wholly Bagels Tory Street.


NZ Fringe Festival 2012

10 February - 4 March,

Bowl-A-Rama

International skate competition with the best skaters in the world competing in New Zealand's finest bowl for the biggest prize money in the history of New Zealand skating.

Celebrating the Year of the Dragon, the 2012 Chinese New Year festival features a mix of traditional and contemporary fashion, dance, foods and crafts.

Summer Shakespeare - Twelfth Night

17 February - 3 March,

One of Shakespeare's most romantic and hilarious comedies, Twelfth Night tells the story of Viola, a young woman shipwrecked in a foreign land. To protect herself, she decides to dress as a man, and comes to serve the lovesick Count Orsino in his courtship of Lady Olivia, who instead falls for the fetching young go-between.

The Blackcaps will be looking for a winning start in this first ODI match of the tour. Both teams are loaded with talent which should make for a great day out at Westpac Stadium.

Dragon Boat Fun Day

Practise racing and test out your endurance. This event is open to teams that have entered into the Wellington Dragon Boat Festival on 18 and 19 March. Free barbecue for competitors.

AMI Round the Bays

Hundreds of runners on Jervois Quay in Wellington.

A 7km run / walk or the ISC Lenco Half Marathon. Both distance options hug the beautiful inner harbour bays and end at Kilbirnie Park for the 'Finish Line Festival'.
