One of New Zealand's biggest youth arts festivals, Artsplash brings together over 100 primary and intermediate schools from the Wellington region to celebrate dance, music, drama, visual art and wearable art.

Artsplash 2012

This year we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of Artsplash festivals.

Artsplash 2011

Artsplash 2011 was held in September, and divided into two parts:

  • drama and dance performances
  • visual art, and music and wearable art performances

The Artsplash music performances were conducted and directed by Ella Buchanan Hanify and Ruth Armishaw. The Chilton / Gallery Orchestra and Wellington's Sinfonietta also featured in various performances, along with the Artsplash Festival Band.

The Artsplash Drama participants performed 15 different pieces at the Opera House.

In the Artsplash Dance section, students aged 5 to 13 years took part in six performances. Dance styles included hip-hop, creative jazz, cultural and ballet.

The Artsplash Music and Wearable Arts section featured a creative fashion show with thousands of students performing in a massed choir, accompanied by orchestras and bands.

The Artsplash Visual Art section featured an exhibition in Wellington Town Hall of more than 1,000 artworks by young artists.

Artsplash was also part of the Festival of Carnivale that took place in the city to celebrate Rugby World Cup 2011.
