The Council's recreation department facilitates community programmes and events in Wellington by putting organisers in touch with free or reasonably priced hire equipment, held by Council and other community organisations.

Arts
Display Units
Nine folding, free-standing screens, 2m high, each panel 1m wide (two to a screen).
The fabric on the screens is Velcro receptive. Pins can also be used for securing items. Good for trade shows, displaying art, notices for meetings, brochures and more. Borrower is responsible for transport and asking about rehearsal space, music studios, dark rooms and other creative spaces.
Cost: Free.

Outdoor
Outdoor Recreation Equipment
Including tents, packs, cooking gear, kayaks, windsurfers, life jackets, parachute, waterproof gear, grass skis, portable gas barbecue, loud speaker system and more.
Cost: Prices vary, but are reasonable. Especially cheap for schools. Surcharge for other community groups is 40 percent.

Preschool Playtrailers & Equipment
For pre-schoolers. Including large foam shapes, balls, hoops, parachutes, gymnic balls, hopscotch mats and more.
Cost: $60 per week. Minimum 2-4 weeks hire. Council pick up and deliver.

Push Play Trailers for Schools & Community Groups
Including sports equipment of all kinds - suitable for children and adults. Resource manual of games and activities.
Cost: Free to hire; $30-charge for pick up and drop off. Coordinator available to run a programme, cost $20 per hour.

Billboard & Banner Sites
The Wellington Railway Station billboard and Jervois Quay overbridge are available for use for promoting community events. Over 400 street banner sites are also available for approved events.
Site use is free to community groups and approved event organisers. Book well in advance. Costs include production and installation.
