Cemeteries Database - Search

Wellington City Council's cemetery and crematorium records can be viewed online from the following dates to present day:

  • Bolton Street Cemetery - from 1840
  • Karori Cemetery - from 1891
  • Makara Cemetery - from 1965

If you are researching family history or genealogy, this is a useful search tool.

Note: Styles of record keeping have altered over the years. Wellington City Council has attempted to make sure records are as accurate as possible. However, the records' historic nature means there will be some level of inconsistency and inaccuracy.

Burial Records

Burial records are also available for public viewing at the Karori Cemetery office.

The office holds records dating back to 1849 of interments at Bolton Street Cemetery, now Bolton Street Memorial Park.

The cemetery holds records for 151,409 people who have been interred or cremated. Records can be searched by plot location or name.
