Karori Cemetery

Wellington City Council operates two cemeteries, at Karori and Makara. There is also a crematorium and two chapels at Karori Cemetery and an urupā at Makara Cemetery.

The Council aims to support family and friends of deceased people, with a respectful environment and professional assistance. Our services and facilities are designed to meet a range of bereavement needs.

After Hours Bookings

You can make a provisional booking by leaving a message on the Karori Cemetery's answer service.

You still need to send in the relevant documents to confirm your phone booking.

24 Hours Notice Required

The Karori Cemetery office needs all your documentation at least 24 hours before casket burials, ash interments, cremations, chapel services and ash scatterings.

Council Policy

All burials and cremations are carried out in accordance with the Burial and Cremation Act 1964.
