Pam Brabants' pencil drawings have been described as cartoon observations. In The Amazing BraPants!, she explores the trivial details, secret lives and phobias of sub-cultures, social misfits and ordinary folk. Life's awkward moments are given a new spin in the artist's obsessively rendered drawings, needlework and comic book. Pam Brabants will be presenting a slideshow on her work in the gallery on Saturday 10 March at 2.00pm. |

Handshake is an innovative mentorship program - the brainchild of contemporary jeweller Peter Deckers. At the beginning of 2011 he paired 12 graduate jewellers with the artists who most inspire them. The 12 'apprentices' teamed up with their jeweller idols, exchanging images and ideas through email, skype and face-to-face conversations. The collaboration has resulted in a series of local and internationally-based exhibitions. This exhibition at Toi Pōneke Gallery marks the first anniversary of Handshake. |

This body of work looks at the reality of being an artist amongst full-time work, motherhood and the general blah of an ordinary busy life. It uses and extends the history of drawing, process and maintenance art in a unique way to look at this reality. The process, materiality and maintenance of daily life and physical functions are collected, collated, examined and presented as a cohesive investigation of self. The work challenges assumptions of self-portraiture by asking viewers to instead consider the artists' habits, personality and methodology. |
