Tawa Centres upgrade.
Tawa Centres upgrade

The Council has upgraded the Tawa Town Centre and Linden Neighbourhood Centre. The Tawa Community Board and the broader community contributed to developing a range of upgrade work.

The work has made the centres more:

  • Active - encouraging activity in the street in both Tawa and Linden.
  • Appealing - making it enjoyable and easy to walk in Tawa and Linden with improved footpaths and a nicer environment.
  • Unified - extending the identity of Tawa across Main Road and to Linden, giving the shopping areas in Tawa a consistent look and feel.

The Tawa Community Board approved the projects listed below.

White Light Project

This project improves the existing street lights using white, metal halide lighting along Main Road and Cambridge Terrace. It is meant to promote a sense of well-being through improved facial recognition.

Heritage Trail & Library

The Tawa Historical Society is developing a historical trail around Tawa. The start of the trail might be adjacent to the Mervyn Kemp Library, in front of the public toilets. If approved, this area would be upgraded to include paving, planting, seating and historical information.

175 - 185 Main Road, Tawa

This footpath upgrade work uses the asphalt, paving and street furniture that has been used elsewhere in Tawa.

Linden Street Frontage

This footpath upgrade work uses the same asphalt, paving and street furniture as the Tawa retail area. It link the Linden and Tawa retail areas.
