The future economic success of Wellington depends on the ability to attract and retain new and existing businesses.

An important existing business is the New Zealand Stock Exchange (NZX) - the lynchpin of New Zealand's finance sector.

Odlins Building

The NZX is located in the historic Odlins Building on the waterfront. Locating the NZX there was a valuable decision for Wellington because the city retains:

  • a business central to the retention of other businesses
  • the reputation as New Zealand's finance Capital.

Scrolling Signs

In 2003 the Council proposed the purchase of two electronic scrolling signs for the waterfront facades of the Odlins Building.

The signs were completed in August 2006. They are a focal point on the waterfront's popular promenade, displaying stock prices and showcasing upcoming city events.

Budget

The Council contributed $480,000 towards the electronic scrolling signs project.
