In Stage 4: Implementation

Summary

Construction of the new safety improvements is due to start in January 2009. This will include the new 40 km/h speed limit which comes into effect on 29 January 2009.

As well as the localised 40 km/h zones, other changes are being made to lower speed and improve pedestrian links, including:

• adding and altering traffic signals
• installing give-way or stop controls at uncontrolled intersections
• installing driver-feedback signs
• constructing kerb extensions and central islands, including landscaping with trees and low planting where possible
• adding speed humps
• altering road markings.
