Karori Library
The Karori Town Centre is now complete with the opening of the new landscaped access-way leading from Karori Road to the community centre.
Landscaping
The major landscaping elements include:
- a wide, well-lit walkway with seating areas
- paving detail on the walkway that echoes details around the library
- Chinese elms along the walkway, and around the open grass area near the community centre
- a grove of kowhai beside the carpark
- a new drinking fountain and seats near Karori Road (funded by the Karori Lions)
- the foundation stone from the demolished St John’s Church Hall has been incorporated into the seating area
- community centre carpark resealing – the parking layout will be modified to provide a footpath in front of the centre
- more trees, including the golden totara removed from beside the Lighthouse building, will be planted in June along the access-way and in the town square.

Buildings
Karori Community Centre
The St John’s building will remain, and the Council has approved temporary use of this building for the community groups that were using the wooden hall.
Land formerly occupied by the Lighthouse building will be left clear and tidy until a decision is made on the future use of the St John's site. This will be discussed with affected and interested parties, and a report will go to the Council by the end of 2008.
Budget
The budget for this phase of the development was $360,000.
Community Hall Project
The Karori Community Hall Replacement Committee would like to build a new hall on land adjacent to the community centre, so the Council is making this land available for that purpose for five years.
