Bus priority lanes separate buses from other traffic, allowing them to travel more efficiently.
Bus priority lanes are marked with words on the road and sometimes with signs. Some lanes operate at all times and others during peak commuter traffic.
There are specific rules on using bus lanes - for detailed information, view:
The Council enforces bus priority lanes through its TransitWise team. If an enforcement officer sees a driver using a lane inappropriately, they may send the vehicle owner a warning letter or a $150 instant fine.
If the owner was not the driver they can have the ticket transferred to the driver by making a statutory declaration.
TransitWise officers can also issue tickets for stopping or parking inappropriately in bus lanes.
