Wellington City Council is proposing to lower the speed limit through 21 suburban shopping areas in Wellington from 50 km/h to 30 km/h over the next four years.
Benefits
The benefits of lowering the speed of vehicles in suburban shopping areas include:
- significantly enhancing safety for vulnerable road users
- encouraging more active modes of transport
- creating a safer, more pleasant shopping and business environment.
Lowering the speed limit also acknowledges the long-standing concerns of the local communities.
