The Khandallah Town Hall upgrade project was completed in August 2011.

The hall, built in 1912, has been transformed into a multi-use community space. The community and the Council worked together to create this facility - which will continue to play a key role in the Khandallah community.

Booking the Hall

The Cornerstone Community Centre will manage the hall and meeting rooms as well as develop programmes and activities that meet the community needs. Enquiries and bookings can be made by contacting:

Project Background & Goals

In 2003 the Council held a series of workshops with the Khandallah Community Forum which identified restoring the Town Hall as a community priority.

Based on workshop feedback, the building has been transformed into a flexible multi-purpose space and the front of the building has been restored to its original design.

The project included:

  • creating new meeting and activity rooms (including replacing the upper floor gallery seating with a meeting room that offers access to the reinstated balcony)
  • installing ramp access and lifts to make the building fully accessible
  • new kitchen and toilet facilities (incorporating the existing toilet block into the upgraded facility)
  • removing the sycamore tree on the western side of the Hall to allow for the construction of the timber deck
  • relocating the Cornerstone Community Centre into the Town Hall.

Funding

The Council gave $1.07 million towards the project. The Khandallah Community Forum and the Cornerstone Community Trust raised the remaining balance through community grants and fundraising.
