Notification of an application for Resource Consent under Section 93(2) or 94C of the Resource Management Act 1991.

Location: Site known as Long Gully Station, 48A, B, C, D & F Ashton Fitchett Drive, Brooklyn and 201 Happy Valley Road, Owhiro Bay, and 53 Waiapu Road, Karori (Karori Sanctuary).

Description of Application:

The construction, maintenance, operation and decommissioning of a wind farm facility involving 25 two-bladed turbines. The development requires associated earthworks for roading and construction purposes as well as the erection of new electricity lines and an upgrade of existing electricity lines. The development also includes the erection of wind-measuring devices and a single-storey operations and maintenance building.

The site is located within the Rural Area, Open Space B Area, Conservation Area and Suburban Centres of the Wellington City Council District Plan and Proposed District Plan Changes 32 and 33. It is subject to the provisions of Chapters 7 (Suburban Centres), 15 (Rural Area), 17 (Open Space), 19 (Conservation Sites), 21 (Heritage), 23 (Utilities) and 26 (Renewable Energy). The site also includes a Hazard (Fault Line) Area, the Wrights Hill Heritage Area and Designations A4, A6, T17, R3, 61 (Landfill) and W3 (Water supply and Karori Sanctuary). The site also contains areas of the Rimurapa Landscape Feature Precinct.

The proposal is a Discretionary Activity (Unrestricted) for the following reasons:

  • The proposal involves the erection of a new overhead electricity line and an upgrade of existing overhead electricity lines and therefore requires resource consent under Rule 23.4.2 of the District Plan.
  • The proposal to erect wind-measuring devices requires resource consent under Rule 26.2.1 of the District Plan.
  • Wind energy facilities require resource consent under Rule 26.3.1 of the District Plan.
