Due to the generosity of the recently disbanded Tawa Roller Skating Club, $7,650 will be available in grants to benefit young people in Tawa.

The funds were donated to Wellington City Council to be used for youth activities in the area.

Tawa Community Board Chair Ngaire Best says the Board discussed the windfall and are keen to keep their options open on how it is used.

"We look forward to receiving some exciting applications for projects that benefit our youth. We plan to consider applicants alongside the usual Tawa Community Grants which close 31 January 2007."

The funding from the roller skating club has been gratefully received and Tawa Community Grants chair Robert Tredger says it will be a significant boost to the usual pool of funding that the committee distributes.

"Each year we have $15,000 of ratepayers' funds to give out to benefit Tawa. The contribution from the Tawa Roller Skating Club is a fantastic donation and will support some worthy causes.  The grants criteria is broad enough to cover a wide range of projects. It makes sense to administer the funds side by side."

Applicants are advised to use the Tawa Community Grant form to apply.  Applications will close at 5pm on 31 January 2007 and the committee will make their decisions in early March. Forms and guidelines can be downloaded from www.Wellington.govt.nz/services/grants or ring the Grants Team on 499 4444.

A free public seminar on grants will take place on 11 December at the Council Offices. Call Barbara Franklin on 801 3595 to book your place on the seminar.
