Craig Shepherd has won the by-election to fill a vacant position on the Makara-Ohariu Community Board.
Mr Shepherd received the required proportion of votes to take the seat, according to final results announced this afternoon (Saturday 10 June).
The postal election was held under the single-transferable voting (STV) system.
Four candidates stood for the vacancy that arose with the resignation of Board member David Jennings. Mr Jennings, who was elected to the board in October 2004, has recently shifted from the Wellington area.
The four are listed below in descending order to indicate the number of first-preference votes they received:
- Craig Shepherd ( Elected)
- Garry Maude (Not elected)
- Roger Askin (Not elected)
- Roger Bradshaw (Not elected)
The turnout for the by-election was 63 percent – of the 509 voting papers mailed out, 319 were returned.
