EFTPOS

EFTPOS stands for Electronic Funds Transfer at Point of Sale. It is a bankcard system which debits your account electronically, allowing you to pay for purchases without carrying cash.

EFTPOS is extremely widespread in New Zealand, and is available in almost all shops, restaurants, and businesses - even in many taxis.

Some shops also allow you to withdraw cash when you pay for goods and services with EFTPOS.

Credit Cards

Major credit cards are available through most banks.

Cheques

The rise of EFTPOS and internet banking means that the use of cheques is becoming much less common. Many businesses do not accept cheques as means of payment and the ones that do may charge a fee.
