Banks are generally open from 9.00am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday. Some branches in the central city or in shopping malls are open on Saturday as well. Internet banking is common in New Zealand, allowing customers to check their account balances, transfer money and pay bills online.
Automated Teller Machines
Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) operate 24 hours a day. There is a vast network of ATMs in every town and city in New Zealand. Almost all accept a wide variety of bank ATM cards.
ATMs allow customers to withdraw cash, check account balances, transfer funds between accounts, and more. There is a daily ATM cash withdrawal limit of NZ$500, so you may need to go into a branch to withdraw larger amounts.
Bank Fees
Most New Zealand banks charge a fee for every transaction made, including ATM transactions, cheques and savings withdrawals. There are also fees associated with other bank services such as mortgages and international currency transfers between bank accounts.
Banking Ombudsman
Sometimes disagreements occur between banks and individuals. If a person is dissatisfied with a bank's internal complaints procedure, they may apply for help from the Office of the Banking Ombudsman.
