Wellington has a lively café culture, nightlife and restaurant scene that draws people into the city day and night.

Brunch features prominently in the menu of most cafés and going out for brunch is very much part of a Wellington weekend.

Crowds gather for the Cuba Street Carnival entertainment

Wellingtonians are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining options - cuisines to suit every taste and every budget.

When the sun sets, the nightlife areas of Courtenay Place and the nearby Cuba Quarter light up. The concentration of pubs, clubs, bars, theatres, concert venues, cinemas, restaurants and cafes in and around Courtenay Place makes it one of the most intense nightlife districts in Australasia.

There are live shows every night in Wellington, and you can easily enjoy the unique sounds of local bands. Wellington is particularly noted for the richness of its contemporary music scene. Fat Freddy's Drop and the Phoenix Foundation are two local bands with a strong following.
