Generally, to qualify for a Housing New Zealand home, you must have lived in New Zealand for two years, but special cases can be made. Refugees may qualify if they enter New Zealand for reunification or humanitarian reasons and have the appropriate level of need. People are encouraged to contact HNZC and have their eligibility assessed.

Pensioner Housing

Pensioner housing for the elderly is provided by Lower Hutt and Porirua City Councils, and Kapiti Coast District Council.
