Wellington is home to many corporations and central government agencies offering a diverse mix of work opportunities. About 15,000 people are employed in core public services in the Wellington region. Other major employment sectors are property, business, retail, health and community services.

The region’s economic strength centres on its high-growth sectors - creative industries, niche manufacturing, education, biotechnology, professional services, information communication technology and government.
