Elections for all local authorities in New Zealand are held on the second Saturday in October every 3 years. Wellington City Council uses the postal voting method.
The elections are held under the Local Electoral Act 2001, the Local Electoral Regulations 2001 and the Local Government Act 2002.

The local authority elections are your chance to have a say in decisions the Council makes that affect electors.

The most recent election was held on Saturday 9 October 2010. The final voter turnout was 40.12%, with 53,605 ordinary voting documents and 775 special voting documents returned.
