Traffic Resolutions - Electric vehicle charging and car sharing (April 2017)

Wellington City Council is asking for feedback on 23 proposed new traffic resolutions to enable electric vehicle charging and car sharing in Wellington.

Status Open
Start date 18 April 2017
Closing date 5.00p.m., 5 May 2017
Parked cars.

The resolutions are for a variety of traffic and parking restrictions.

We are proposing to make parking bays available to car sharing providers in Wellington, and to support electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure providers.

Our objectives are to:

  • reduce the city's greenhouse emissions by shifting to non-fossil fuels and encouraging people to use fewer cars
  • improve the transport mix, and support and increase transport choices for residents that are sustainable and positive for the climate.

Among the spots covered by these traffic resolutions:

  • 24 parking spots are for car sharing
  • 10 parking spots are for medium-speed EV chargers
  • 3 parking spots are for fast EV charging.

We plan to deliver the project in partnership with private sector providers to ensure minimum impact on ratepayers.

This proposal is aligned with the Low Carbon Capital Plan, Wellington Resilience Strategy, Wellington Urban Growth Plan and Wellington Towards 2040: Smart Capital.
